Our Name and Inspiration

The name Interlaken literally means between two lakes but I like to think of it as "where waters meet..." and was inspired by a place near and dear to my heart.

I have the good fortune of having a family cottage in the beautiful lake region of northern Ontario called Muskoka - "the land of many lakes". This area is known for deep green forests and deep dark waters.  Walk a mile through the woods in any direction and you are bound to end up in an ancient glacial lake surrounded by towering pines and shores dotted with happy cottages.  Growing up I spent my summers here on a small lake enjoying carefree days on the dock and in the water and woods. This is my happy place.  No matter where I am I can close my eyes and feel the sun on my skin, smell the fragrant summer air and hear the sound of the water lapping against the rocky shoreline.

These memories and images, small moments of tranquility and peace in the north woods, are what I hope to share with you.  So try a little "Sunshine" scrub in the shower to brighten your mood in the morning or go for a soak in the "Moonlight" to unwind before bed and may you find some moments of peace and tranquility where the waters meet...

Sincerely,

Amy Fromm, Crafter & Chief Soaker
Interlaken Soak Company

Our Mission

To share our love of all things "bath".  We believe soaking in a warm tub can "cure" the blues, lift the spirit, warm the body as well as the heart, and just generally make life a little better for a little while.  Even if you are not a "soaker" you can find the same kind of rejuvenation with a good scrub-a-dub in the tub (or shower).  And don't forget about thirsty skin!  Treat yourself with a luxurious body butter or massage oil once you are dried off and ready to go.  It's all about just giving yourself a little TLC and we hope to inspire you to do more of it!

Our Company

We are based in Arlington, VA and though far from the Canadian summer breezes of our name, we strive to bring the simple beauty of that area to our company, both in product and philosophy.  We pride ourselves on ethical and responsible business practices including the quality of our products, the environment and our pricing.  We try to keep our costs low in order to do the same for you but quality is the most important thing around here and we support local and small businesses when we can, even if it means paying a bit more - we believe producing the best product possible and having trust in our suppliers is worth it.

Science has brought us many great things but for the simple act of daily care for our bodies we like to go back to the original guru - Mother Nature. We know that the word "natural" gets thrown about a lot these days and we make sure to not only talk the talk but to walk the walk too!  We seek out and use only high-quality, truly natural ingredients, from salts & sugars to oils & butters and essential oils for fragrance, from suppliers that uphold our ideals and standards.  Even our preservatives are ones only created from natural products such as Vitamin E, Grapefruit Seed Extract (extracted in vegetable glycerin) and Rosemary Extract.  We never use synthetic fragrances or dyes.  All of our ingredients that are labeled organic are certified and we use these when available.

We make best efforts to follow the four "R"s - reduce, reuse, recycle and responsibility - and our packaging follows suit.  Our PET plastic jars are recyclable and our 12oz "cello" bags are made from biodegradable vegetable cellulose.  We are committed to seeking out ways to be more ecologically responsible, constantly researching new vendors and suppliers from ingredients to packaging and will make improvements whenever possible.

Products

Our products are created using truly natural and often organic ingredients.  Whether it's a soak, scrub, powder, butter, etc.. there are no synthetic dyes or fragrances and even our preservatives come from nature which means products are best used within a reasonable time from purchase, generally 6 months unless otherwise stated, but of course with any fresh product the sooner the better. All of our products are anhydrous (water-free) so please avoid getting water in them to help keep them fresh as long as possible and to prevent the possibility of bacterial growth.

We care about you and your body.  Though our products are always designed to be gentle, every individual is unique and can react differently to certain elements.  Please pay attention to what ingredients are in a product and avoid any to which you may have known allergies.  Due to the properties of certain essential oils, we also recommend that you use with care if nursing or pregnant and of course always follow your doctor's advice if you are uncertain about any ingredients.  Avoid getting water in products to prevent the possibility of bacterial growth.
